Raspberry Chocolate Mousse
One of Angie’s birthday cakes. She elected to get a bunch of small portion size cakes rather than one big one.

On a warm sunny summer day, Angie and I went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. After watching jellyfish, stingrays and fish we headed back home. On the way home we decided to stop by a beach. Angie at first didn’t even want to goto the beach — which I would probably would have skipped as well since it was fairly cold, windy and gray. While she was busy looking up showtimes for the new Harry Potter movie, I drove to the closest beach and put my plan in motion.
As she complained, we hiked down to the beach and walked away from the few families that were packing up to leave for the day. She didn’t want to sit on the sand, so I suggested we walk over to a white log that was lying on a beach next to a burnt out campfire. As she was trying to walk on the log, I found a piece of charcoal and suggested she write something on it to add to the writings already on the log. She drew a lovely heart and wrote an “A+G” within the heart and the date next to it.
After she was done, I pointed to a closed mussel shell in the sand. I handed the shell to her and asked her to open it. She flashed me her famous “are you crazy?” look towards me as she looked at the shell. After shaking it a little bit she realized that there was something rattling inside. “Maybe it’s a pearl!” she exclaimed. I handed her my car key so she could pry the shell open.
Of course, after she opened the shell she just stood there in disbelief and confusion. In her confused state, she probably heard me blurt out the question. After a few more seconds, she turned to me smiled and screamed “YES!”

Angie holding the car keys, the shell and the ring.
She said yes
Angie and I got engaged on Saturday. I’ll post the story later.
